Peter John Kerlin, November 2007

Yin Yoga is a series of deeply opening yoga poses which are held for very long periods of time, typically 3 to 5 minutes. The practice increases elasticity in connective tissues, helps maintain full range of motion in joints and stimulates energy meridians throughout the body. Known as "the quiet practice", students are encouraged to listen to their body's needs. The Yin practice is excellent for preparing the mind and body for meditation and for balancing active Yang lifestyles.

Yang Yoga joins breath and movement together in a flowing vinyasa sequence, warming the muscles and increasing vitality. Steady and controlled breathing is at the heart of the practice. Longer holds in standing poses bring alignment into focus and build strength while core exercises and balancing asanas bring you to your center.

On December 21, 2007, Sarah’s brother Peter passed away at the age of 31. A long time volunteer at the Homeless Garden Project, Peter often said that he felt his purpose in life was fulfilled by helping others. Peter’s dreams continue to shine as the community comes together in support of the Garden at this benefit event. The Garden’s goal this year is to support 25 families with scholarship shares of Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), a weekly supply of fresh organic fruits and vegetables for 22 weeks. Each share costs $550 for the season. All donations collected at this event will go directly to the Homeless Garden Project. CSA shares for your family will also be available to purchase during the workshop.

Come and celebrate the gifts of life with an invigorating Yang practice, then go deeper under the surface to explore your inner awareness with an inspiring Yin practice. We will close class with a meditation in honor of those who grace our lives.
